The Danish dressage team
qualified for the Olympics

Anna wins North Western European league and secures Denmark Olympic participation.

The Danish national team missed the team qualification for the Olympic Games at last year´s European Championships in Aachen, Germany, with less than one percent. Missing out on the team qualification was a huge disappointment, especially to Anna, who got kicked in her chest by Pepe and broke three ribs just prior to the competition.

The missing team qualification has led the Danish riders to chase points for the individual Olympic ranking where Denmark could qualify two riders in the North Western European league. A further six spots were available to riders who did not qualify through the geographical leagues.

After the qualification period ended on the 6th March 2016 it stood clear that Denmark gets to send a full team to the Rio Olympics, as both Anna and Pepe, Mikala Gundersen and My Lady, Agnete Kirk Thinggaard and Jojo, and Lars Petersen and Mariett obtained individual qualification.

Despite winning her league, Anna is not automatically secured a spot at the team who shall defend the Danish colours in Rio de Janiero in August. It is solely the national team trainer, Rudolf Zeilinger, who nominates the team in the middle of July based on this year´s performances.

“After we failed to qualify as a team last year I had by no means expected to being able to qualify a full team through the individual rankings in the end! I am very releaved and proud of having secured Denmark participation at the Olympic Games; now it is time to focus on my own results to put down good and solid performances over the next couple of months. If everything goes to plan I really hope to be among the four riders who shall represent Denmark at the Rio Olympics… That would be a dream coming true!” says Anna.
